Culinary comforts: Soothing the January chill

By Mountgrange Heritage January 2024

As January blankets the streets of Kensington and Chelsea with a crisp chill, there’s no better time to embrace the warmth of charming eateries that beckon with a cozy ambiance. We invite you to explore a selection of restaurants and that not only tantalize the taste buds but also create an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication, perfect for ushering in the New Year. From rustic restaurants to inviting pubs, each recommendation promises a culinary haven to combat the winter blues.

Golborne Deli

100-102 Golborne Rd, Kensington, W10 5PS

This hidden gem in North Kensington provides a cozy setting with its rustic decor and a menu featuring artisanal delights. Enjoy a leisurely brunch or lunch, surrounded by the warmth of community and good food.

74 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, W2 5SH

The wonderful ‘veggie and vegan’ delights served in this Notting Hill gem of a restaurant are created from the fruit, veg and herbs transported weekly from its own biodynamic farm in the Kent countryside.

The Cow

89 Westbourne Park Road, Notting Hill, W2 5QH

Tom Conran’s now legendary The Cow Saloon Bar and Dining Rooms is one of our favourites. Vibrant and full of friendliness and cheer it is famed for its Guinness and Oysters. Exceptional pub fare specialising in seafood.

The Shed

122 Palace Gardens Terrace, Kensington, W8 4RT

The archetypal farm-to-fork experience in the heart of Kensington. This rustic-chic restaurant prides itself on bringing a slice of the Sussex countryside to west London. Perfect for quick eats at lunch or an exciting dinner with friends accompanied by one of the award-winning English wines from their Nutbourne vineyard. Alternatively the ‘Local & Wild’ tasting menu is a creative expression of modern British cookery which takes you on a six course journey through the English countryside and coast.

The Churchill Arms

119 Kensington Church Street, Kensington, W8 7LN

It’s over 25 years since this historic pub in Kensington became the first to serve Thai food alongside its first-class ales.  Known for its ‘blooming’ exterior and the only pub to have won a Chelsea Flower Show award, this establishment offers a cozy atmosphere in the winter.

Osteria Basilico

29 Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill, W11 2EU

Since 1992, our neighbours and friends at Osteria Basilico have been serving up home cooking as you would expect to eat in Italy.  Literally next door to our Notting Hill office and just moments from the Portobello market the friendly service and buzzy atmosphere brings a tribe of regulars flooding back year after year.

San Pietro

 7 Stratford Road, Kensington, W8 6RF

This wonderful cosy spot serving the most delicious, authentic Italian fayre is right next door to our Kensington Office and we can’t recommend it more highly. The pizzas and black risotto are a must.

4 Derry St, Kensington, W8 5SE

This Indian inspired restaurant captures the essence of old-world charm. The inviting atmosphere and delectable flavours make Dishoom a wonderful place for a cozy January experience.

Fez Mangal

104 Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill, W11 1PY

An authentic Turkish cuisine in the heart of Ladbroke Grove. With its intimate setting and a menu boasting an array of grilled delights, Fez Mangal is a great option for those seeking comfort in the culinary traditions of Turkey. From succulent kebabs to flavourful mezes this eatery invites you to enjoy robust flavours with a welcoming ambiance.

35 Kensington High St, Kensington, W8 5EB

Latin American and Mediterranean fusion in the heart of Kensington, Zuaya stands as a testament to culinary innovation. Amidst stylish decor, you’ll discover a menu that blends diverse flavours and textures. Zuaya is an ideal place for those seeking a touch of spice.

Cheers to a New Year filled with food, friends, and the discovery of new culinary treasures!
