The Lexi Cinema is a much-loved highlight of life in Kensal Rise. An indie cinema run by volunteers, all of its profits go to charity. The Lexi shows a great range of mainstream and independent films as well as live screenings of opera and theatre and one-off talks. It has a lovely bar and café too!
Located near Kensal Rise station, Minkies Deli is the hub of the area. It’s where the trendy flock for their caffeine fix. Minkies serves a great range of salads, sandwiches and hot meals making it the perfect celeb-spotting lunch spot.
Paradise by Way of Kensal Green
Paradise by way of Kensal Green is where the people in the know go for a night out. Not just a pub but also a restaurant and bar, it serves great food and stays open until the early hours at the weekend where its infamous house DJs keep the party rocking. The private hire dining rooms are the perfect place to impress friends.
Gracelands on College Road is the best child-friendly café in the area. Not only does it serve amazing coffee but also has great food and service with a smile.
Parlour Kensal, on Regent Street is a lovely all day restaurant open from 10am to 10pm. They serve superb quality seasonal dishes and the best Brazilian coffee before lunch. As they say on their website, come and try your luck!
The Chamberlayne Pub and Steakhouse on Chamberlayne Road is a steak-lovers heaven. Serving a range of Smithfield Market sourced meat; it is a wonderful place to dine out. The Chamberlayne also specialises in whiskey, the perfect digestif.
Behesht on Harrow Road is a wonderful Persian restaurant serving a real taste of Iran in authentic surroundings of Persian textiles and décor. Although large, it gets very busy at weekends and is worth booking ahead.
Gastropubs in Kensal Rise
Kensal Rise has a fantastic selection of gastropubs: The Salusbury is a top rated gastropub on Salusbury Road and The Island is another chic gastropub on College Road. The Whippet Inn is a bar and bistro on Chamberlayne Road. More traditional pubs include the Masons Arms on Harrow Road.
Kensal Green Cemetery
Kensal Rise is famous for the slightly eerie wildlife haven that is Kensal Green Cemetery, a large Victorian graveyard built on what was at the time the outskirts of London. Over 250,000 people are buried here including luminaries such as Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Charles Babbage, Anthony Trollope and William Makepeace Thackeray.
