The best parks in West London for dogs

Our favourite parks in West London for a stroll with our four legged companions include the more obvious choices like Hyde Park and its 350 acres to roam, though keep in mind some areas don’t allow dogs or they may need to be kept on the lead, similarly with Kensington Gardens and Holland Park- in fact all the royal parks are dog friendly and fantastic places to visit with your pooch.

Paddington Recreation Ground is one place that may not spring instantly to mind however it has not one but two safely enclosed areas where dogs can run free, they are also allowed on the playing fields as well. When you are done throwing Frisbees you can retire to the dog friendly café by the cricket pitch, which also boasts an enclosed area for dogs, and their owners for a well earned sit down!

Another West London favourite is Wormwood Scrubs, which is doggie heaven according to Lucy Kennedy, the founder of Happy Dogs day care who had the following to say about it:

“I love taking the dogs to Wormwood Scrubs. It is so amazing and in the middle of central London. You feel you are away from everything. You could almost be in the middle of the countryside. In fact, most parts of the countryside are noisier! It is free from picnickers, roller bladers, tourists, police, ambulances and apart from the odd few footballers it is a tranquil paradise. There are very few other dogs and the dogs can have a really good run around. It is even squirrel free. It is so much easier to walk dogs than Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park”

Where can you find dog friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in West London?

Various restaurants these days allow you to take your four legged friend inside with you and others are happy to welcome dogs to their outside spaces. It’s always worth ringing and checking before your visit. Some only allow small dogs, however there are plenty of places that are happy to host dogs of all shapes and sizes such as Beach Blanket Babylon and Polpo. The most upmarket place to show off your pooch at its best after a pamper has to be 202 on Westbourne Grove!

There are several dog friendly pubs in Notting Hill. The Westbourne has long been a firm favourite with pooches and their owners. The Windsor Castle on Campden Hill Road, The Castle on Holland Park Avenue and The Ladbroke, a charming pub tucked away from the hustle and bustle on Ladbroke Road also welcome pooches.
If you’re in Kensington, make a beeline to The Devonshire Arms. The Dock Kitchen in North Kensington is also great after a walk along the canal with your dog.

Dog friendly cafes in Notting Hill

Many cafes in Notting Hill will allow dogs in their outside spaces and there are a few who welcome them inside too. Kitchen and Pantry on Elgin Crescent is one such example and welcomes small dogs inside. Pedlars General Store and Café next to Rough Trade on Talbot Road just love dogs and even have a dog of the week competition on their website!

A great online resource to find out about dog friendly places to visit as well as other news, information and online shopping is Pets Pyjamas, a must see website for all London dog owners.

Boutique shopping for your four legged friends

If you are looking to pamper your pooch there are plenty of shops in the west London area which stock everything your canine chum could possibly need! Canine pamper shops include Purple Bone on Notting Hill Gate, the wonderfully upmarket and chic Mungo and Maud who have a concession in Harrods and Pet Pavilion who have shops in both Notting Hill and Kensington.

Doggy day care West London

Many dog owners in West London sadly have to combine work with looking after their pooch. This is where the services of a great doggy care come in hand. Local business Happy Dogs has been providing dog owners in the Notting Hill area with canine care since 2001. Started by Lucy Kennedy who has an MA in Animal Psychology specialising in dog behaviour, Happy dogs provides day care for pooches all over the area as well as walking services, dog grooming, dog training, vet and hydrotherapy visits. Happy Dogs even offers doggie boarding services at their country house in the beautiful Oxford countryside meaning that when you go on holiday, so does your dog! It’s a far cry from the soulless kennels dogs are often sent to. They even have a shop that will supply you with everything your dog could ever want! You can even get a portrait painted of your pooch. Their main office is based in White City with Wormwood Scrubs Park right next door.

Dog friendly apartments London

Britain is a nation of animal lovers – nearly half of us own a pet – yet many pet owners find it incredibly hard to find dog friendly apartments to rent in London.

We launched our Pet Friendly Lets scheme in 2012 to make it easier for pet owning tenants to find a home and we ask all of our landlords to consider allowing pets. We are also members of the Dogs Trust Lets with Pets scheme meaning we give extra support to dog owners during the rental process. All of our dog friendly rentals are marked with a distinctive paw mark on its web listing so it’s clear to everyone that the house or apartment is pet friendly.

We also check with vendors about whether or not their buildings are pet friendly. In turn our team is able to advise potential purchasers or tenants on which parks and communal gardens are dog-friendly, where the nearest vet is located and so on.

We happily recommend local shops; dog walkers and pooch parlours, many of us have our own pets at home so love a visit in the office from one of our many four legged tenants!
